When to Consider SmartGraft® Hair Restoration

When to Consider SmartGraft® Hair Restoration

Hair loss can be a concerning problem. The thinning of your hair strands as the patches increase can make you helpless and devastated. Fortunately, SmartGraft® hair restoration can solve these problems for you. Read on to learn more.

What Is SmartGraft Hair Restoration?

SmartGraft is a hair transplant method. It is a minimally invasive innovation that produces natural results. Your plastic surgeon uses this method to isolate and harvest groups of one to four hair follicles. Most of the time, the follicles are harvested from the back of the head as it is often less prone to hair loss. The grouped follicular units are the micro-grafts.

How Does SmartGraft Hair Restoration Work?

After harvesting, your specialist places the micrografts in a controlled environment within the SmartGraft device. Your surgeon will take them out when ready to do the hair transplant.

Placing the micrograft produces healthy and natural hair growth. Patients do not have linear scarring because of the use of micrografts. SmartGraft hair restoration causes little discomfort, quick recovery, and minimal scarring.

When You Can Consider SmartGraft Hair Restoration

SmartGraft hair restoration can be the best solution for you if you have gone through hair loss. Individuals with female hair loss, alopecia areata, and male pattern baldness are suitable candidates. It is also the right solution for you if:

  • You want a fast recovery time after hair transplantation

  • You want a permanent and natural-looking solution for your hair loss

  • You want to have short hair. SmartGraft hair restoration leaves little scarring. Hence, you can look good with a short haircut

  • You want to camouflage scarring from a prior strip-harvesting process

SmartGraft Hair Restoration Consultation and Procedure

The SmartGraft consultation will require you to visit your plastic surgeon Scott Harris, MD, at least twice before the procedure. Expect to discuss your medical history, scalp, and hair health during the first consultation. Your specialist will examine your scalp to determine if you are a candidate for the procedure. You will then discuss the specifics of the treatment and your expectations.

Your plastic surgeon will give you instructions to guide you on how to prepare. They will ask you to wear comfortable clothing and, if possible, listen to some music during the procedure to ensure you remain calm. The process will take up to five hours. Thus, your surgeon may schedule it for the morning hours. You can also arrange for a friend or family member to drive you home because you may receive a mild sedative during the procedure.

On the day of the SmartGraft procedure, your surgeon will discuss the process with you again. They will do so to ensure you understand everything that will happen.

Your surgeon will then begin by prepping the implant and donor areas. They will shave the donor site to manipulate the grafts easily. After doing so, they will use a local anesthetic to numb the implant areas.

The micrografts are removed from the donor site using a SmartGraft device. They will make tiny openings to place the micrografts in the implantation site. The procedure can take up to five hours, depending on the number of grafts you need.

When to Expect Results

Changes will start becoming visible after around three months. You will notice the first hair growth by this time. The improvement in fullness will be more visible by the sixth month after the hair restoration procedure. After one year to 14 months, the full results of the SmartGraft will be visible.
