Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) Aftercare

Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) Aftercare

A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), or gluteal fat augmentation, is a cosmetic surgical procedure that involves the use of specialized fat. The fat is transferred to the butt to augment its shape and size. The surgeon removes excess fat from the abdomen, hips, thighs, or lower back before injecting it into the butt.

As with all surgical procedures, aftercare is an important part of ensuring lasting results. There are things that can ensure a speedy recovery after the procedure. Here are some aftercare tips that will make the recovery process more successful.

Avoid Sitting on the Butt

The most common dilemma that patients face after a butt lift is how to sit after the surgery. The simple answer is that you should avoid sitting. You should avoid applying pressure on the butt for the next two to six weeks — and yes, that means sitting!

If you must sit down, use a BBL pillow that is designed to take pressure off the butt. The special pillow will allow the pressure to go to the lower thighs instead of the buttocks. When using the bathroom, avoid sitting directly on the toilet; instead, squat over it.

Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is very important to ensure recovery after surgery. Avoid eating junk food after the butt lift. Eating a healthy, well-balanced diet will allow the new body to get used to healthy food.

Consuming enzymes, vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients essential for recovery will help in aftercare. Avoid smoking after the procedure as it can interfere with the healing process. Make sure that you stay well hydrated at all times.

Using Compression Garments

Wearing compression garments can aid in the recovery process. Tight and compressive garments fit around the skin, providing much-needed support. A compression garment is very handy after surgery, and it should be worn for three to five weeks after surgery.

You should, however, avoid garments that can be uncomfortable and restrictive as they can damage the transferred fat cells. Remember, uncomfortable clothing can irritate the skin, which is sensitive after surgery.

Avoid Strenuous Activity

While it is not wrong to remain active after BBL, you should avoid strenuous or vigorous activity for a while. Avoid high-impact physical activity for a few weeks after the surgery or until the surgeon gives you the go-ahead. Vigorous activity can affect the healing process and damage the transferred fat. Low-intensity exercise, like speed walking, is acceptable as long as it does not put pressure on the butt area.

Baths, Hot Tubs, and Pools

It is important to be careful during the BBL recovery period. For the first few days after the procedure, opt for showers instead of baths. Avoid pools and hot tubs until you are completely healed. You might want to stay away from the beach for a while. Talk to the surgeon about activities that are considered safe during the recovery period.

It is important to realize that pain and discomfort in the liposuction areas in the first few days are quite normal. The surgeon may recommend lymphatic massage to promote healing and enhance the appearance of the skin. Talk to the surgeon before you schedule the massage. Sticking to post-surgical instructions is vital.
