Why Surgical Experience Should Be a Top Priority

Plastic surgery is both an art and a science. While techniques and technology continue to evolve, one factor remains constant: the irreplaceable value of experience. An experienced plastic surgeon brings more than just skill; they bring judgment, foresight, and confidence built over years of training and hands on practice.

Here’s why experience matters:

•  Increased Safety: Years of practice help surgeons recognize subtle signs of complications early and make fast, informed decisions if unexpected issues arise.

•  Consistent, Natural Results: Dr. Harris understands the nuances of different body types and skin tones, allowing him to create more personalized and natural-looking results.

• Refined Technique: With time, a surgeon hones their techniques for minimal scarring, faster recovery, and optimal aesthetic outcomes.

•  Trust and Transparency: Patients often feel more confident in the hands of a surgeon who has successfully performed a wide range of procedures for decades.

With Dr. Harris, patients benefit from the depth of knowledge that only comes with years of dedication to surgical mastery.

Pre-Surgical Requirements Designed to Protect You

Safety isn’t just part of the process; it’s the foundation. Dr. Harris and his team take every precaution to ensure that patients are physically and medically prepared for surgery. A detailed pre-surgical screening process helps identify any potential risks before the procedure even begins.

A mammogram report is required for all patients age 35 and older. The screening must be completed within one year of the scheduled surgery date. Once breast surgery is performed, no additional mammogram is needed until six months post-procedure.

Medical clearance is required for all patients age 50 and older. It is also necessary for patients with specific medical conditions, including diabetes, seizure disorders (neurologist clearance), cardiac conditions (cardiologist clearance), rheumatoid arthritis or lupus (clearance from the treating specialist), Factor V clotting disorder, and thyroid issues (recent lab results required prior to surgery).

Patients must also follow clearance and safety protocols involving Lovenox, a blood thinner. All tummy tuck patients are required to complete lab clearance. An EKG is not needed for individuals under 50 unless directed by the surgeon. Procedures that involve muscle tightening require an overnight stay for proper observation and safety. For liposuction of five or more areas (especially in patients with a higher BMI) medical clearance and overnight observation are also necessary.

These pre-surgical protocols are designed to minimize the risk of complications such as blood clots, bleeding, or cardiac issues. By carefully evaluating each patient's health before surgery, Dr. Harris and his team help ensure a safer procedure and a smoother, more successful recovery.
